Based on morphological and molecular analysis of the ITS, LSU and TEF1 regions of rDNA, material collected in Brazil was placed in Crassisporus, representing C. amazonicus, a new species, and C. byrsinus, a newly proposed combination. In addition, the genus is reported for the first time from Africa and South America, and a table with the characteristics of the species of Crassisporus is presented.
